Growth in all the right places

Did you realise that Womens Rugby is the fastest growing area of rugby at present with some 1000 players now registered in Scotland.

All senior women’s clubs are now using the online player registration system.

This is the first time ever that all clubs affiliated/insured and players have registered online prior to the opening league games of the season.

Rugby Strategy

Did you know there is a strategic plan to Womens Rugby?

The IRB have put together the following document/strategy to promote encourage and generally advance the womens game world wide.

The document in PDF format can be downloaded here.

The History

Womans rugby has been around a long time with references to women playing the game as far back as 1891. Games were often played behind closed doors to avoid scandalising the menfolk of the time.

The deveolpment of the sport however has been slow and it is only in the last 30 years or so that significant growth has been seen.

This is particularly the case in the United States and Canada where the game has been taken on with particular enthusiasm in the college and university scene and testifies to their strength at international level.

A comprehensive account of the history and development of the womens game can be accessed here.
