Sponsorship is an important aspect in the financial viability of rugby clubs in the new "professional" era.

Gone are the days when a club could rely on a vast membership pool using the facilities of the club and generating large amounts of bar revenue.

Clubs need the additional revenue generated by receiving sponsorship whether financial or in kind to offset the not insignificant cost of maintaining teams over the course of a season.
